Today we each wrote a ‘Word Cinquain’ using the characters from the book ‘Fox’ by Margaret Wild. A word cinquain is a five line poem with one word on the first line, two words on the second line, three words on the third line, four words on the fourth line and one word on the fifth line.
There are three characters in the book, Magpie, Dog and Fox and we had to think of different words we could use to describe them. We needed to use adjectives, ing words, a sentence and a noun in our poems, and we all did a fantastic job!
Liam: Fox
Is mean
Running, hunting, eating
He likes to eat
Desert
Caleb: Fox
Sneaky, tricky
Jumping, hunting, hiding
He moves very fast
Cave
Izaiah: Dog
Blind in one eye, friendly
Flying, running, playing
Dog was very sad.
Cave
Paige: Dog
Nice, flies
Flying, running, loving
Is friends with Magpie
River
Fox
Sneaky, envy
Flying, jumping, running
Doesn’t like being alone
Forest
Magpie
Nice, trusty
Flying, hoping, leaping
Has a burnt wing
Cave
Jasper: Dog
Nice, friendly
Running, helping, caring
He has a friend
Cave
Check out our poems and maybe you can write one of your own!
Miss Marley is working with us in Room 5 at the moment. Today we completed five different activities to help us learn about two dimensional (2D) shapes. The activities were Fan’n'Pick, Match Mine, Celebrity Heads, Dominoes and Word Wall, and lots of fun. Thank you Miss Marley!
Here are some student comments about the activities and a short Animoto clip.
Megan – My favourite game was Fan’n'Pick because it was a game I really enjoyed! Caitlin – My favourite was Celebrity Heads, I think it was because you had to know all your shapes to know. Meg – I liked Dominoes because it was challenging. India – My favourite activity was Word Wall because you got to choose your own word and decorate it an put it on the word wall. Ethan – My favourite activity was Dominoes because you don’t know what the other person has and you can make a shape. Kaitlyn – I liked Match Mine because it’s very creative. It’s creative because you get to think of something, and when the other people get the puzzle fixed, they might think that is creative.
Do you have a favourite maths activity? What is it and what do you like about it?
The small containers of cotton buds and soil were no longer big enough for some of our seeds to survive in. We prepared a small area in the garden bed outside our room and planted everything. Seedlings, seeds, cotton buds! This garden gets the morning sun and good shade in the afternoon. It is a little dry so we will have to water daily.
We have used the Terracotta Warriors we made a few weeks ago to guard our plants. I wonder if they will grow?
What have you planted in your garden? Did it grow? What did you do to keep your plants healthy?
The seeds are growing! It seemed to take a while but finally the seeds have sprung. And more are bursting out of the soil everyday. More pictures will be on the way soon.
On Wednesday 14th March Room’s 1,2 and 5 were treated to a glimpse of what Life on the Ice was like. Steve expertly presented information about Antarctica with great pictures, props and passion. Here is a snap shot of our time:
Have you been to Antarctica before? Do you know some cool facts about it?
These are our seeds! We have planted carrot seeds and watermelon seeds. We used cotton wool, and some soil, and of course water, to get our seeds growing. We will update our photos next week so you can see how they are growing.
Room 5 is pleased to introduce Salt and Peppa. They will go on adventures with Room 5 class members all the time. We will add all their adventures here for everyone to see.
You can add your adventures here too if you like, we would love to read about them.
